CUBUS is a 31-years old firm situated in Bergen - Norway´s second
largest city. For many years CUBUS was seen as a leading representative
of what was called "The Bergen School" in norwegian architecture.
An approach to architecture based on crossprofessional knowledge,
a more "holistic" analysis of buildingground/ the space focusing
the users an the others most involved in the project. Ecological
perspectives were early (from the 70s) included in the approach
and practice.
The CUBUS´group includes today 20 architects (incl. 3 landscapearchitects)
and planners. 13 are owners.
CUBUS won this year a second award in The European Landscape Architectural
Prize 2002 for a "plaza" in Kabelvåg in northers Norway (The project
is exclusivly presented in a book with english text!). CUBUS was
also a winner of the highly ranked "Statens byggeskikkspris" which
is a governmental prize for best architecture. CUBUS (and others)
were awarded for public/urban spaces in Bergen.
